2027: OTTI WARNS LABOUR PARTY SUPPORTERS AGAINST DISRUPTING OPPOSITION CAMPAIGNS
By NaijaParrot | November 01, 2026 Umuahia, Abia State Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has warned supporters of the Labour Party (LP) against attacking political opponents or obstructing the campaign activities of rival parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor gave the warning on Sunday while officially flagging off the Labour Party’s 2027 campaign in Umuahia, where he insisted that every political party must be allowed to exercise its democratic rights without intimidation or interference. Otti stressed that membership of the ruling party in the state would not provide anyone with protection from arrest if they engaged in acts capable of disrupting lawful political activities.
NO SUPPORTER HAS AUTHORITY TO ATTACK OPPONENTS — OTTI
The governor made it clear that he had not authorised anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to attack opponents or prevent them from campaigning.
He disclosed that security agencies had been directed to take action against anyone who attempted to obstruct legitimate political activities, including individuals within the Labour Party.
Otti also emphasised that opposition parties should be allowed to access public facilities, including stadiums, provided they followed the necessary procedures, obtained relevant approvals and paid the stipulated fees.
According to him, political competition must take place within the provisions of the law, with all parties enjoying the freedom to present their candidates and programmes to voters.
GOVERNOR PROMISES FAIR ACCESS TO PUBLIC FACILITIES
Otti reiterated that his administration would not use government institutions or public infrastructure to frustrate political opponents.
He said security agencies had been instructed to ensure that no political group was prevented from organising legitimate rallies or other campaign activities.
The governor’s position reinforces an earlier directive issued during a meeting with the state’s 2027 Labour Party Campaign Council, where he called for decency, maturity and the avoidance of electoral violence.
CHALLENGES OPPOSITION TO FOCUS ON POLICIES
Beyond warning against political intimidation, Otti challenged opposition parties to raise the quality of their campaigns by presenting credible policy alternatives rather than concentrating on personal attacks.
He argued that political discussions in Abia should focus on the state’s development priorities and the next phase of governance.
The governor maintained that issues such as salaries, pensions, road construction and environmental sanitation should no longer dominate political campaigns in the state, insisting that parties should engage voters with proposals that address emerging development needs.
He also encouraged Labour Party supporters to take the campaign to communities across Abia and engage residents peacefully.
2027 CAMPAIGN AND THE NEED FOR PEACEFUL POLITICAL COMPETITION
Otti’s warning comes as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
His remarks place emphasis on the responsibility of political leaders to discourage violence, protect democratic participation and ensure that opponents can campaign without fear.
With political activities gathering momentum, the conduct of party supporters, the neutrality of security agencies and equal access to lawful campaign opportunities will remain important issues in the state’s preparations for the elections.
