A security officer, identified as Sunday Adedeji and popularly known as “Portable,” has been killed after armed assailants reportedly attacked Senator Lere Oyewumi’s BOVAS-affiliated filling station and burgled its supermarket in an overnight operation. The incident was disclosed in a statement published on October 24, 2026, by the Media Unit of the Office of the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate. The statement expressed grief over the death of Adedeji and called on security agencies to investigate the attack and bring those responsible to justice. (Senator Lere Oyewumi)
According to the statement, the attackers invaded the filling station under the cover of darkness and killed the security officer who was on duty at the premises. The assailants also reportedly broke into the station’s supermarket and stole goods and other valuables said to be worth millions of naira.
The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities of the perpetrators and how they gained access to the premises, were not detailed in the statement.
Adedeji’s death has left his family, friends and associates mourning, with the senator’s media team describing the incident as a devastating loss.
The statement further alleged that the filling station had been targeted in an earlier incident shortly before the Osun State governorship election.
According to the account, armed men allegedly attempted to burgle the facility and attack Adedeji more than three days before the election. The security officer reportedly escaped during that earlier incident, which was said to have been reported to the police.
The latest attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of security personnel and business establishments, particularly following the reported recurrence of attacks on the same premises.
However, the details of the earlier incident and whether any arrests were made were not provided in the statement.
Following the killing, the Media Unit of Senator Oyewumi’s office appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident. The office called for the identification, arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing and the reported burglary.
It also urged the authorities to strengthen security arrangements to protect lives and property across Osun State. As of the publication of the statement, no arrests or official police findings concerning the attack were included in the report.
The killing has renewed concerns over the vulnerability of security guards working at commercial establishments, especially during overnight shifts.
While the statement from the senator’s office provides an account of the incident, further details from the police would be necessary to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and confirm the identities of those involved.
NaijaParrot will continue to follow developments as further verified information becomes available.
