DANKO-WASAGU, KEBBI STATE —
Troops of the Nigerian military have rescued three kidnapped victims in Kebbi State following an intelligence-led search-and-rescue operation targeting criminal activities in the North-West. The rescue was disclosed by the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in a statement issued by its Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the military, the operation took place on August 18, 2026, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area after troops received intelligence about the abduction of three people.
The military said troops acted on the information and launched a search-and-rescue operation that resulted in the successful recovery of all three victims. Following their rescue, the victims were profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities for further action.
The operation formed part of the military’s wider efforts to locate abducted persons, disrupt criminal networks and improve security across communities in the North-West.
Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have continued to conduct patrols and intelligence-led operations across Kebbi and neighboring states in response to kidnapping and other security threats.
In a separate operation reported on October 22, troops rescued four kidnapped victims in Kebbi and Zamfara states. Two victims, Jimoh Su-Arege, 35, and Kalahe Danjuma, 41, were rescued between Bena and Sawade in Kebbi State after soldiers received information that suspected terrorists were moving with abducted persons from Dipindu village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The other two victims were rescued in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Military authorities have continued to urge residents to provide credible and timely information that could help security agencies identify criminal groups, prevent attacks and locate kidnapped persons. Cooperation between local communities and security personnel remains important in areas affected by abductions, particularly where intelligence from residents can help troops respond quickly to emerging threats.
The latest reported operations highlight continuing efforts to rescue victims and restrict the activities of armed groups operating in parts of the North-West.
