TINUBU SUPPORTERS FIRE BACK AT AMAECHI, VOW TO BACK PRESIDENT’S 2027 RE-ELECTIO

BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA —
Udengs Eradiri, Director of Media of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) in Bayelsa State, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, declaring that his supporters remain firmly committed to voting for him in the 2027 presidential election. Eradiri made the declaration while responding to remarks attributed to Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, who reportedly said that only thieves and people he described as mad would vote for Tinubu in 2027. Describing the comments as insulting and irresponsible, Eradiri insisted that Nigerians supporting the President had the democratic right to make their own political choices.
In his response, Eradiri said supporters of the President were determined to campaign for his re-election because they believed his administration deserved another term to continue its policies and reforms. He declared that their support was based on their assessment of Tinubu’s leadership and his willingness to make difficult economic decisions. Eradiri also argued that the country’s ongoing challenges should be debated through policy proposals and assessments of performance rather than insults directed at voters. He maintained that supporters of any political party should be free to express their preferences without being subjected to derogatory labels.
Eradiri questioned Amaechi’s criticism of Tinubu’s supporters, recalling the former Rivers State governor’s previous role in campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that it was inconsistent to condemn Nigerians for supporting a political party that Amaechi had previously helped promote. Eradiri further maintained that the Tinubu administration should be allowed to present its record to voters, while opposition parties should explain how their policies would address the country’s economic and social challenges. These arguments reflect Eradiri’s position as a Tinubu supporter and campaign representative. Amaechi’s criticism, meanwhile, forms part of the opposition’s broader challenge to the President’s economic policies and record in office.
Eradiri also invoked the principle of power rotation, arguing that the South should complete its expected period in the presidency before power returns to the North. He said Tinubu’s supporters would continue mobilising behind the President, citing regional representation alongside their assessment of his administration. However, the debate over power rotation remains a political argument, while the 2027 election will ultimately be decided by voters under Nigeria’s electoral process.
Eradiri called on political parties and candidates to focus on their manifestos, achievements and policy proposals instead of language that could deepen political divisions. He also urged relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the police, to ensure compliance with applicable rules governing political campaigns. The exchange highlights the increasingly sharp rhetoric surrounding the 2027 presidential contest, particularly disagreements over fuel subsidy removal, the cost of living and the direction of Nigeria’s economy.
Amaechi’s remarks and Eradiri’s response illustrate the contrasting positions emerging between supporters of the incumbent administration and opposition figures. While Eradiri says Tinubu deserves another term, Amaechi has criticised the administration’s economic policies and argued that Nigerians should reject its re-election bid. As campaigning continues, voters will have the opportunity to assess the competing claims, policy proposals and records presented by the candidates and their supporters.
NaijaParrot will continue to monitor developments ahead of the 2027 general election and report verified statements from the political actors involved.
