JALINGO, TARABA STATE — The Kuma Traditional Council in Taraba State has suspended the District Head of Wurbo Gashiri, Alhaji Babaji Abubakar Garba Jugulde, following a dispute reportedly linked to his son’s decision to pursue a political ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to a report by SaharaReporters published on Thursday, October 22, the suspension took effect on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The district head serves in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The report identified the district head’s son as Hon. Auwal Babaji Jugulde, who is reportedly unwilling to abandon his ambition to contest the Gembu State Constituency seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly under the ADC platform. The development has raised questions about the relationship between traditional institutions and the political choices of family members ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the reported connection between the suspension and the son’s political ambition has not been independently established beyond the account published by SaharaReporters.
The suspension was communicated in a letter dated October 21, 2026, reportedly issued by the Office of the Mbondua, Kuma Traditional Council. The letter accused the district head of acting outside the traditional council’s rules and engaging in activities it described as contrary to the council’s guidelines. It also stated that an investigation would be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations before a final decision or further measures were taken. The letter was reportedly signed by Jelani B. Hammawa Yana, secretary of the Kuma Traditional Council.
The incident comes as political activities intensify across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with candidates and parties seeking support in constituencies across the country. The Gembu State Constituency contest is expected to attract attention as political aspirants position themselves for the election. The incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, was mentioned in the report amid allegations that he was concerned about the prospect of losing his seat. That allegation has not been independently verified. As of the report cited, the traditional council had announced an investigation, but no final resolution on the district head’s status had been reported.
