SHAIBU SAYS ECONOMIC HARDSHIP COULD BOOST ATIKU’S 2027 PRESIDENTIAL BID

ABUJA, NIGERIA —
Phrank Shaibu, a communication aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has expressed confidence that the economic difficulties facing Nigerians could strengthen Atiku’s chances in the 2027 presidential election. Shaibu reportedly made the remarks during an interview on the Mic On Podcast, arguing that voters struggling with hunger, poverty and the rising cost of living would seek a change in leadership at the polls.
According to reports, Shaibu described the 2027 election as potentially one of Atiku’s easiest presidential contests, linking his optimism to public dissatisfaction with current economic conditions. He argued that Nigerians hoping for more affordable living conditions could support Atiku in large numbers. Shaibu’s comments reflect the opposition camp’s expectation that the cost of living and household economic pressures will be significant issues in the next presidential election. However, his prediction represents the position of an Atiku ally, not an established assessment of how Nigerians will vote.
Atiku contested the 2023 presidential election, securing approximately 29 per cent of the votes, according to the report. He is now preparing for another contest amid political realignments and debate over the performance of the federal government. The 2027 race is expected to feature discussions about inflation, food prices, employment, security, public services and the broader direction of Nigeria’s economy.
Although Shaibu believes economic hardship could work in Atiku’s favour, the outcome of the election cannot be determined by any political figure’s prediction. Voters will ultimately assess the candidates, their records, their policy proposals and their ability to address the country’s challenges before making their choices. The extent to which economic concerns influence voting decisions will become clearer as the election approaches and the candidates present their plans to Nigerians.
NaijaParrot will continue to follow verified developments ahead of the 2027 general election.
