SEYI MAKINDE PLEDGES FOUR-YEAR UNITY GOVERNMENT IF ELECTED PRESIDENT IN 2027

YOLA, ADAMAWA STATE —
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has promised to establish an inclusive transitional Government of National Unity if elected president in the 2027 general election, declaring that his administration would not remain in office beyond four years. Makinde made the pledge on Saturday, October 10, while addressing the party’s North-East zonal town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he outlined his proposed approach to governance, national unity and addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Speaking at the gathering, Makinde said his proposed administration would begin on May 29, 2027, and operate as a transitional government focused on bringing Nigerians from different backgrounds together. He said the government would not exceed a single four-year term and would prioritise inclusiveness, transparency and national unity. Makinde explained that his proposal was intended to address concerns about political representation and the concentration of power, particularly among different regions of the country.
The Oyo State governor said his proposed administration would focus on finding practical solutions to insecurity, poverty, electricity shortages and other challenges affecting Nigerians. He also said his party had delayed publishing its manifesto to allow its leadership to consult citizens and incorporate their concerns into its policy proposals. According to Makinde, his proposed government would listen to Nigerians, respect their rights and avoid using national challenges as political tools.
During the meeting, Makinde called on the Federal Government to publish its petroleum pricing template to explain how the prices of petrol and other petroleum products are determined. He argued that making the calculations public would allow Nigerians to understand the factors influencing pump prices and contribute informed suggestions. Makinde also criticised the Tinubu administration’s policies on compressed natural gas, electric vehicles and the naira-for-crude initiative, describing them as unsuccessful in delivering the expected relief to Nigerians. These remarks reflect Makinde’s assessment of the government’s policies, rather than an independent evaluation of their overall effects.
Bauchi State Governor and APM national leader Bala Mohammed expressed support for Makinde’s presidential ambition during the event. Mohammed described the party as a political platform committed to national unity, equal opportunities and mutual respect among Nigerians, regardless of their backgrounds. The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, also said the APM would present its detailed policy proposals during the national campaign.
Makinde’s pledge places a single four-year term at the centre of his proposed presidential agenda. He joins other political figures who have made similar one-term commitments ahead of the 2027 election. However, the proposed government and its policies remain campaign commitments. Their implementation would depend on the outcome of the election and the constitutional and legal framework governing the presidency. The declaration adds another dimension to the emerging political debate over national unity, regional representation, economic management and the future direction of Nigeria.
NaijaParrot will continue to follow verified developments as political parties and candidates present their proposals ahead of the 2027 general election.
