RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA —
At least 12 people have been killed and 309 others injured following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). Several of the injured were reported to be in critical condition. The attack occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, and caused damage to airport facilities, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend operations while safety assessments were carried out.
According to GACA, those killed included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. The 309 injured people were receiving medical treatment at hospitals, with some requiring critical care, the aviation authority said. The attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians and the security of major aviation facilities amid escalating regional hostilities.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the incident to allow emergency teams to assess the damage and confirm the safety of the affected facilities. The disruption also affected air travel, with airlines cancelling or adjusting some flights. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for the latest information before travelling to the airport.
Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition have blamed Yemen’s Houthi movement for the attack. Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki condemned the incident and described it as a serious violation of international humanitarian law, while indicating that a response would follow. However, Reuters reported that the Houthis had not claimed responsibility for the October 10 attack at the time of its report. The attribution should therefore be distinguished from independently confirmed responsibility.
The airport attack comes amid increasing hostilities involving Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces in Yemen. Further escalation could affect regional security, civilian safety and international air travel. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and monitor the condition of those injured.
NaijaParrot will continue to follow verified updates on the attack and its implications for regional security.
