POLICE ARREST ROCHAS OKOROCHA IN ABUJA OVER ALLEGED FORGERY, CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY

 ABUJA, NIGERIA —

Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night, October 12, at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja in connection with an ongoing investigation. However, the police later released him on bail after approximately one hour of interrogation, according to Channels Television, which quoted the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu.

The police spokesperson confirmed that Okorocha had been questioned over the allegations and directed to return to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday for further interrogation. The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour earlier police invitations relating to the investigation. Reports indicate that the former governor was initially invited to appear before investigators on September 2, 2026. The appointment was subsequently rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers, but he reportedly failed to attend on the revised date.

The development comes amid controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Imo West ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reportedly asked the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate a document allegedly circulated as the result of the APC primary. According to reports, INEC said its official records identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the winner of the primary and the party’s candidate for the Imo West senatorial seat. The commission reportedly questioned the authenticity of another document that presented Okorocha as the winner. A magistrate court in Abuja had also reportedly issued bench warrants for Okorocha and other individuals in connection with allegations involving criminal conspiracy, forgery and the presentation of false documents.

The police are expected to continue questioning Okorocha as investigations into the allegations proceed. The former governor has previously disputed reports concerning the purported arrest warrant, according to media reports. His response to the latest arrest and the specific allegations should be considered alongside any further statements from his representatives and the authorities. It is important to note that the allegations remain allegations and do not amount to a conviction. The outcome will depend on the evidence presented and the relevant legal proceedings.

NaijaParrot will continue to monitor the development and report further confirmed details as they emerge.
