OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — Senator Dr Kamorudeen Olalere Oyewumi, the Deputy Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, is seeking re-election to represent Osun West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, with his campaign emphasising infrastructure development, rural electrification and support for agriculture. Under the theme “Continuity of Purposeful Representation,” the re-election campaign presents Oyewumi’s first-term record as a reason for voters to give him another mandate. His campaign slogan, “Lere Lẹẹkansi, Ise Rere Ntesiwaju,” translates to a call for his return and the continuation of ongoing projects and initiatives.
A major focus of the campaign is road infrastructure, with the senator’s team listing several road construction and rehabilitation projects across communities in the district. Among the projects highlighted are the Oriolowo/Agbele Road and Fojugbagi/Adediti Road in Iwo, which the campaign says were commissioned on the same day. Other projects listed include the Akinola-Iyemoja Street in Iwo, the Ogberin Junction–Ede Polytechnic South Gate Road in Ede, and the Bovas–Araromi Road in Oluponna, Ayedire Local Government Area. The campaign also identifies road projects in Isokan, Irewole, Ayedaade and Egbedore, including the Total–Abiri Junction Road, Oke-Ola/Anajere/Sagba/Ilupeju Junction Road, Obada Market–Wakajaye Junction Road and Olomowewe Road in Okinni. Additional projects listed include the Onijayi–Akogun–Ikoyi Eleja Road in Ile-Igbo and the Adebisi Sawmill–Oduduwa–Anajere–Oke-Olufi–Sekere-Ayo–Sango Road in Ikire. According to the campaign material, more than 250 kilometres of rural roads have also been graded to improve access between farming communities, markets and urban centres. If sustained and properly maintained, such interventions could help reduce transportation difficulties for farmers, traders and residents in the affected communities. However, the project’s completion status, funding details and independent assessments of their impact would be necessary to establish the full extent of the achievements claimed.
The campaign also highlights efforts to improve electricity supply and public lighting across parts of Osun West. It lists the procurement and installation of three 500KVA transformers in Sunmoye, Islamiyah and Ako communities in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area. Solar-powered streetlights installed in parts of Ikire, Iwo, Ede and Ejigbo are also presented as part of the senator’s community development efforts. The campaign further credits Oyewumi with intervening over a damaged transmission breaker at the Ajebandele substation in Ile-Ife. According to the campaign account, the intervention with the Transmission Company of Nigeria helped restore more stable electricity to communities including Ikire, Apomu, Ikoyi, Wasinmi, Gbongan and Orile-Owu. The extent and duration of the reported improvements would need to be assessed against electricity supply records and feedback from the affected communities.
Agriculture is another area highlighted in the senator’s re-election message. The campaign says 500 bags of fertiliser were distributed to farmers across the senatorial district to support agricultural production. It also lists a programme for 100 fish farmers who reportedly received training in modern fish-farming techniques through the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, alongside a stated grant package of N10 million. Such programmes are intended to support farmers’ productivity, improve access to agricultural inputs and encourage income-generating activities in rural communities. Their long-term impact will depend on how effectively beneficiaries use the support and whether the interventions lead to sustained improvements in production and earnings.
Oyewumi’s campaign is presenting his first-term activities as evidence that continuity in representation could allow existing projects and community programmes to progress further. The senator represents Osun West Senatorial District, which comprises Ayedaade, Ayedire, Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo and Ola-Oluwa local government areas. As the 2027 election approaches, voters will have the opportunity to assess the projects attributed to the senator, examine their delivery and impact, and compare his record and proposals with those of other aspirants. While the campaign describes his record as a move from promises to measurable results, independent verification of project delivery, expenditure and community benefits would provide a fuller picture of his performance.
