OSUN’S POLITICAL RIVALS CLOSE RANKS FOR TINUBU: TOMPOLO BACKS 1.5 MILLION-VOTE DRIVE WITH 30 VEHICLES

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Governor Ademola Adeleke, former Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and prominent Niger Delta figure High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, have joined forces in a campaign initiative targeting between 1.5 million and two million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Osun State. The ambitious target was announced on Saturday during the inauguration of the state and local government structures of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Osogbo.
The event also featured the donation of 30 campaign vehicles and other mobilisation materials by Tompolo, who serves as the movement’s Grand Patron. The political gathering attracted supporters and representatives from different political backgrounds, highlighting efforts to build a coalition around Tinubu’s second-term ambition despite existing party differences in Osun.
Representing Tompolo at the event, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Chief Kestin Pondi, presented the vehicles and other campaign equipment intended to strengthen the movement’s grassroots operations. The vehicles are equipped with public-address systems and other facilities to support door-to-door mobilisation and political engagement across communities.
Tompolo urged Osun residents to support Tinubu’s re-election, describing the President as a fellow Yoruba man whose administration’s economic reforms deserved continuity. He argued that the Federal Government’s policies had improved revenue available to state governments, making it easier for them to meet financial obligations and execute development projects. He also challenged the state to deliver at least 90 per cent of the votes cast for Tinubu in the presidential election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, described the mobilisation exercise as evidence of a shared political objective among supporters from different parties. He commended Tompolo for supporting the initiative and urged coalition partners to put aside previous disagreements in pursuit of Tinubu’s re-election.
According to Adeleke, the partnership is primarily focused on the presidential election and should not be interpreted as an abandonment of individual political parties or their separate interests in other contests. He maintained that the coalition must translate its public declarations and political structures into actual votes at polling units. Adeleke consequently urged supporters to work towards delivering between 1.5 million and two million votes for the President.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, also expressed confidence in the growing support for Tinubu across political boundaries. Oyetola, who was represented by the APC’s 2026 Osun governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, said the President’s re-election campaign was attracting support beyond the traditional membership of the APC.
He urged political leaders, party faithful and grassroots mobilisers to ensure that the support being expressed publicly translates into overwhelming votes during the election. He further emphasised the need for unity, discipline and commitment among campaign structures.
Figures presented at the event put Osun State’s registered voter population at 2,339,233, with 1,906,390 voters having collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The proposed target of between 1.5 million and two million votes therefore represents a highly ambitious mobilisation challenge, particularly when measured against the number of collected PVCs.
Achieving such a figure would require extensive grassroots engagement, strong voter turnout and effective coordination across the state’s 30 local government areas. The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is expected to intensify its campaign activities by engaging residents directly and encouraging eligible voters to support Tinubu at the ballot box.
The development is particularly noteworthy because Adeleke and Oyetola belong to different political camps in Osun’s state-level politics. While Adeleke leads the Accord Party administration in the state, Oyetola remains a prominent APC figure and serving minister.
Their participation in the same presidential mobilisation initiative reflects an attempt to separate national political interests from party competition at the state level.
However, whether the coalition can convert its ambitious target into actual votes will ultimately be determined by the response of Osun voters when the presidential election takes place.
