OSUN WEST YOUTH COUNCIL FORUM HIGHLIGHTS OYEWUMI’S RECORD, MAKES CASE FOR CONTINUITY AHEAD OF 2027

OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Coordinators Forum of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun West Senatorial District, has highlighted the record of Distinguished Senator Dr. Kamorudeen Olalere Oyewumi, popularly known as Akogun Lere, in constituency development, youth empowerment and inclusive representation as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

In a press statement, the forum said Senator Oyewumi’s tenure in the 10th Senate had focused on several areas, including education, infrastructure, agriculture, electricity, social support and economic empowerment. According to the statement, the senator’s constituency agenda also emphasises accountability, community development, skills acquisition, and opportunities for young people and women across Osun West Senatorial District.

The forum identified youth and women empowerment as notable areas of his representation, citing reports that more than 800 beneficiaries from the district received grants in September 2024 to support businesses, vocational activities and entrepreneurial initiatives. It said such interventions were intended to encourage self-reliance, support small businesses and address some of the economic challenges facing young people and women. The statement also referred to constituency projects involving roads, solar streetlights, educational facility rehabilitation, agricultural support and other community-based interventions.

It described these initiatives as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and expand opportunities across communities in the senatorial district. Beyond physical projects, the forum stressed the importance of inclusive representation, arguing that effective leadership should ensure that young people, women, farmers, students, traders and other groups have opportunities to participate in development and benefit from government programs.

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the coordinators said the question of continuity in representation deserves consideration, particularly where constituency programs and development projects remain ongoing.

The forum argued that retaining institutional experience could provide an opportunity to consolidate completed projects, advance outstanding initiatives and strengthen existing empowerment programs.

However, it acknowledged that the decision on who should represent Osun West ultimately rests with the electorate, urging voters to assess candidates based on their records, legislative responsibilities, constituency interventions, qualifications and proposed programs.

The statement called for political discussions centred on facts, accountability, inclusion and a clear development vision, rather than rhetoric alone. It further maintained that the needs and expectations of the people should remain central to conversations about the district’s political future. The statement was signed by the Coordinators Forum, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun West Senatorial District.
