OSUN ORDERS WEEKLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION, MANDATES 8AM–10AM EXERCISE ACROSS STATE

OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Osun State Government has approved the immediate commencement of a compulsory two-hour weekly environmental sanitation exercise across the state, directing residents and business operators to participate every Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the State Head of Service and Chairman of the newly constituted Osun State Environmental Sanitation Taskforce, Mr Samuel Ayanleye Aina.

Under the new arrangement, office operators, market traders, shop owners, artisans, shopping malls, store operators and owners of business premises are expected to be physically present at their respective locations and take part in the sanitation exercise during the designated hours.

The state government said the exercise was aimed at tackling indiscriminate refuse disposal, discouraging the dumping of waste in unauthorised locations and strengthening compliance with existing environmental regulations.

According to the statement, the initiative is also intended to promote a cleaner environment and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks associated with poor waste management and unsanitary surroundings.

To ensure compliance, law enforcement personnel will be deployed to support the taskforce during the exercise.

However, the government clarified that their role would be to enforce compliance with the directive rather than arrest residents and business operators.

The task force chairman urged residents across the state to cooperate with the government and make proper sanitation a shared responsibility.

He stressed the importance of public participation in maintaining clean communities, keeping business premises tidy and preventing the accumulation of refuse in public spaces.

The introduction of the weekly exercise places renewed emphasis on environmental responsibility across Osun State, with residents and businesses expected to observe the Thursday sanitation period as directed.

The statement was electronically signed by Mr Samuel Ayanleye Aina, Head of Service and Chairman of the Osun State Environmental Sanitation Taskforce.
