OGUN POLICE ARREST THREE SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS OVER ALLEGED CULT INITIATION

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Police Command has reportedly arrested three secondary school students in connection with an alleged cult initiation, raising fresh concerns about the spread of cult-related activities among young people. The incident has drawn attention to the growing challenge of cultism among school-age children and the need for stronger collaboration between parents, school authorities, community leaders and security agencies to protect students from criminal activities. However, details surrounding the latest reported arrests, including the identities and ages of the students, the school involved and the exact location of the incident, could not be independently confirmed from the available reports.

Cult-related activities among secondary school students have remained a concern for security agencies and education stakeholders in Ogun State. In March 2025, the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of eight students of Ifo High School over alleged cult-related activities within the school environment. According to a report published by Punch, the investigation followed a complaint from the school’s management after concerns were raised about students allegedly participating in cult activities and disturbing the school environment. The police said the investigation was intended to establish the extent of the alleged activities and prevent further incidents.

The reported arrest of the three students underscores the importance of early intervention to discourage young people from joining secret cult groups. Parents and guardians have a responsibility to monitor changes in their children’s behaviour and social circles, while schools should strengthen counselling services, student supervision and confidential reporting channels. Community leaders and relevant government agencies also have a role to play in educating young people about the potential consequences of cult involvement, including violence, criminal prosecution and disruption of their education.

Further details are needed to establish the circumstances surrounding the latest reported incident and the specific allegations against the students. The students should be regarded as suspects unless and until the allegations are established through the appropriate legal process.

NaijaParrot will provide further updates as credible information becomes available.
