OBIDIENT MOVEMENT WARNS WIKE AGAINST INTERFERING IN 2027 ELECTIONS

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Obidient Movement has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against any attempt to influence or manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Nigerians must be allowed to freely choose their leaders. The warning followed Wike’s declaration that he would lead President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Rivers State and the FCT ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday through its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement said Wike’s role in coordinating the campaign did not give him authority over voters or the electoral process.
The group stressed that political leaders and parties had the right to campaign for their preferred candidates but must respect the constitutional rights of Nigerians to determine election outcomes through the ballot box.
“Wike must understand that coordinating a political campaign does not confer ownership of the electorate, control over voters, or authority over the electoral process,” the movement stated.
The movement maintained that Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory belonged to their people and should not be treated as the political possessions of any individual, party or influential politician.
It challenged Wike and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to convince voters through the performance of the Tinubu administration rather than create the impression that political influence would determine the outcome of the election.
The group said the President’s supporters should present the administration’s record to Nigerians and allow voters to make their decisions freely.
The Obidient Movement also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain impartial and take necessary steps to protect the credibility of the 2027 elections.
It urged the relevant institutions to ensure that political interests did not interfere with their responsibilities and that all parties were given a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
The group further called on Nigerians to remain vigilant, monitor electoral activities, document suspected irregularities and report credible evidence of malpractice through lawful channels.
It warned that any proven attempt to manipulate the elections should attract appropriate legal consequences, regardless of the political position or influence of those involved.
The warning comes as political parties and their supporters begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with discussions increasingly focusing on campaign strategies, electoral transparency and the independence of institutions responsible for conducting the polls.
The movement maintained that the outcome of the election must reflect the choices of voters rather than the influence of political officeholders.
