The Niger State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with alleged cyberbullying, defamation, domestic assault and theft, while recovering stolen property in separate operations across the state. The incidents, which reportedly occurred between October 14 and 19, were detailed in a crime bulletin issued by the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun.
Police operatives attached to the command’s Intelligence Department arrested a 30-year-old man, Bello Darlington, from the Maikunkele area of Minna, over allegations of cyberbullying, falsehood and defamation. According to the police, the arrest followed a complaint about a video posted on the suspect’s TikTok account, wethepeople_government.
In the video, he allegedly accused the Commissioner of Police and the head of an institution of conspiring to take someone’s life.
The police said the suspect was unable to provide evidence to support the allegation during questioning. Other videos on the account were also being examined as investigations continued ahead of possible prosecution.
In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman, Safiya Tukur, was arrested over an alleged assault on her husband during a domestic disagreement at their residence in the Darusalam area of Kpakungu, Minna.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10 a.m. on October 15. Police alleged that the woman used a sharp object to inflict a deep cut on her husband’s private part. The victim was taken to General Hospital, Minna, for medical attention, while the suspect was arrested.
Police said she was subsequently charged to court and remanded as the case proceeded.
The arrests form part of the command’s efforts to investigate reported offenses and recover property linked to suspected criminal activities. The police have not concluded the cases, and the allegations against the suspects remain subject to the judicial process.
Residents are encouraged to report suspected crimes through appropriate channels and allow law enforcement agencies to investigate allegations before conclusions are drawn.
