MAKINDE’S CAMPAIGN VOWS TO DEFEAT TINUBU IN 12 BATTLEGROUND STATES AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTION

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has declared that its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, will defeat President Bola Tinubu in 12 battleground states during the 2027 presidential election. The campaign organisation, which is promoting Makinde under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), made the declaration while reacting to reports that Tinubu intends to campaign personally in selected states ahead of the election.
According to a statement issued by the organisation’s Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Nnanna Ihediwa, the 12 states are Oyo, Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa and Lagos. The campaign group said it was confident that Makinde could secure support across the states, including Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as it expands its nationwide campaign activities. However, the declaration represents the campaign organisation’s political prediction and is not evidence of how voters will ultimately decide the election.
The MDPCO attributed its confidence to what it described as growing public dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s handling of the economy and other national challenges. The organisation criticised the administration’s economic policies, arguing that many Nigerians continue to face financial pressure and difficulties meeting basic needs. It also challenged Tinubu to engage directly with Nigerians during the campaign period and assess conditions in communities across the country, including the state of federal roads and public infrastructure. These criticisms reflect the position of Makinde’s campaign organisation. The Presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may offer different assessments of the administration’s record.
The campaign organisation said Makinde’s proposed RESET NIGERIA agenda was gaining attention, particularly among young people. According to the group, the agenda focuses on four broad areas: the economy, education, security and socio-political reforms. It said the proposed programme would prioritise increased production to address poverty, improved access to functional education, intelligence-led security measures and more inclusive governance. The campaign has presented the agenda as its proposed alternative to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election.
The latest declaration adds to the growing exchange of criticism between Tinubu’s supporters and opposition campaign groups ahead of the presidential election. The APC has also announced plans for nationwide campaign activities, with Tinubu expected to lead rallies in several states. Opposition figures, meanwhile, have challenged the President to defend his administration’s record directly before voters. Ultimately, the election outcome will depend on voters and the electoral process. The competing claims made by political parties and campaign organisations will be tested as the campaign progresses and Nigerians assess the candidates, their policies and their records.
