LAOLU AKANDE REVEALS WHY SOME TINUBU GOVERNMENT FIGURES MAY NOT WANT FASHOLA AROUND

Former presidential media aide Laolu Akande has reportedly discussed why some individuals within President Bola Tinubu’s administration may be uncomfortable with the presence or influence of former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola.

The reported comments have drawn attention to the political relationships within the ruling establishment, particularly the dynamics between Tinubu and some prominent figures who previously worked closely with him.

However, the specific explanation attributed to Akande could not be independently verified from the available reporting. The precise remarks should therefore be confirmed before being presented as a direct quotation.

Fashola served as Lagos State governor from 2007 to 2015 before becoming a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, overseeing the portfolios of Power, Works and Housing at different stages of the administration.

His political relationship with Tinubu has attracted public attention over the years, particularly during discussions about succession, influence within the Lagos political structure and the distribution of political power.

In July 2026, former Tinubu aide and academic Professor Dapo Thomas alleged that disagreements over political loyalty and succession contributed to tensions between Tinubu and Fashola during Fashola’s governorship.

Those claims were based on Thomas’s account and have not been independently established as a complete record of the relationship.

Although Fashola did not return to the federal cabinet after Tinubu became president in May 2023, he has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian public life. In July 2026, Fashola said he preferred to offer Tinubu advice privately rather than publicly criticise the President on television.

He explained that the President could contact him directly for his views on areas requiring improvement.

The former minister’s comments provide context for discussions about his relationship with the current administration, but they do not independently establish that members of Tinubu’s government are seeking to keep him away.

The reported remarks attributed to Akande raise questions about the influence of experienced political figures, the role of advisers and the relationships that shape decision-making within government.

Nevertheless, claims about the intentions of unnamed government officials require careful attribution. Without the full interview or a verified transcript of Akande’s remarks, it would be premature to conclude why particular individuals might oppose Fashola’s involvement.

NaijaParrot will update this report when the original statement or a reliable transcript is available.
