By NaijaParrot October 10, 2026
LAGOS, NIGERIA —
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) chapter, has suspended its industrial action following the Lagos State Government’s approval of key allowances under agreements with university staff unions. The union announced the decision after a congress meeting held on Thursday, October 8, stating that academic activities would resume on Monday, October 12, 2026.
GOVERNMENT APPROVES KEY ALLOWANCES
According to the union’s resolutions, members welcomed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s approval of the 40 per cent Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), the 10 per cent Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and professorial allowances. However, the union stated that some outstanding issues remain unresolved and should continue to be discussed with the state government. These include provisions concerning retired professors and the proposed Lagos Factor Allowance.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES TO RESUME MONDAY
The suspension is expected to allow teaching and other academic activities at LASUED to resume from Monday. The development follows weeks of industrial action by university staff unions over the implementation of agreements covering allowances, welfare provisions and outstanding payments. It is important to note that the confirmed suspension applies to ASUU-LASUED. The available report does not establish that all unions across every Lagos State-owned university have suspended their separate strike actions.
WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW LASUED
students should prepare for the announced resumption on October 12 while monitoring official communications from the university for further instructions.
NaijaParrot will continue to follow developments concerning the strike and any additional decisions by other university unions.
