JIDE KOSOKO DEFENDS TINUBU, SAYS NIGERIA’S PROBLEMS ARE NOT AS BAD AS PORTRAYED

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, arguing that Nigeria’s challenges are not as severe as some critics portray them and insisting that the government is working to address the country’s problems. Kosoko made the remarks during an interview with actress Biola Adebayo, where he acknowledged the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians but maintained that the President was taking steps to tackle several longstanding challenges. According to reports about the interview, the veteran actor urged Nigerians to look beyond widespread criticism of the administration and consider what he believes are its ongoing efforts to improve the country.
The veteran actor reportedly admitted that life remained difficult for many Nigerians, stressing that his defence of the government should not be interpreted as a claim that everything was going well. He maintained, however, that the country’s problems should be considered alongside the administration’s efforts to address them. His position comes amid continuing public debate over the Federal Government’s economic reforms, rising living costs and the impact of its policies on households and businesses.
Kosoko also reportedly called on beneficiaries of government programmes, particularly initiatives targeting students, to share their experiences publicly. His comments suggest that he believes positive experiences with government policies should receive greater attention in discussions about the administration’s performance. However, the effectiveness of individual programmes and the extent to which they have benefited Nigerians remain matters that can be assessed through verifiable evidence and independently documented outcomes.
The actor reportedly criticised some of the President’s political opponents, suggesting that their political ambitions influenced their assessment of the administration. These remarks represent Kosoko’s personal interpretation of the political debate and do not independently establish the motives of those criticising the government. Political opponents and supporters of the administration continue to express differing views about the direction of the country and the results of the government’s policies.
Tinubu’s economic reforms have remained a major subject of national discussion, particularly following changes to fuel subsidy arrangements and foreign exchange policies. While the administration has defended its reforms as necessary steps towards economic stabilisation, many Nigerians continue to express concerns about food prices, transportation costs and the affordability of basic necessities. Assessing the administration’s performance therefore requires examining measurable economic outcomes alongside the experiences of ordinary citizens. Kosoko’s comments add another voice to the ongoing debate about whether the government’s policies are delivering sufficient benefits to Nigerians and how quickly improvements should be expected.
