Kano, Kano State, Nigeria

The Nigerian Army has established and deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve its capacity to respond to emerging threats. The newly established formations are the 24 Battalion, located in Tudun Wada, and the 311 Artillery Regiment, based in Dambatta. The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 1, Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, disclosed this during an operational assessment visit to the two formations between October 28 and 29, 2026.

During his engagement with personnel, Major General Wase described the formations as newly established units requiring commitment, resilience and collective efforts to achieve their operational objectives. He assured the troops that the 1 Division was working closely with the Kano State Government to accelerate the process of making the units fully operational.

The GOC also emphasised that personnel welfare and the provision of adequate logistical support remained important priorities in strengthening the formations.

Wase, who was accompanied by the Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, also held meetings with local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada. He appealed to residents and host communities to cooperate with the military and provide the necessary support to the newly established formations.

According to him, collaboration between security agencies and local communities is essential to creating a safer environment and improving security across the state.

The Nigerian Army explained that the establishment of the two formations forms part of its broader expansion and restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and improving operational responsiveness. The assessment visit also provided an opportunity for the military leadership to evaluate the units’ readiness and identify areas requiring additional support before they attain full operational capability.

The development comes as security concerns continue to demand stronger coordination, improved military capacity and cooperation between security agencies and local communities. Army strengthens its presence with new formations as efforts continue to improve security.
