ZARIA, KADUNA STATE — Former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Abubakar Isah, has reportedly been abducted by armed men suspected to be police officers in Zaria, Kaduna State, with his whereabouts unknown at the time of reporting. According to a report by SaharaReporters published on Friday, October 16, the armed men allegedly seized Isah and took him to an undisclosed location.

The report said a video obtained by the news outlet showed some of the suspected operatives wearing jackets bearing police insignia. In the footage, one of the men reportedly agreed to allow Isah to contact his lawyer after he requested to speak with his legal representative. The video allegedly captured the distress of relatives as he was taken away. However, SaharaReporters stated that it could not independently verify the circumstances surrounding the incident or establish the identities of the men involved.

The reported incident comes amid previous controversies involving Isah and security agencies. In 2025, Isah faced detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) amid a dispute over the leadership of NANS. He was later released in June of that year, according to reports at the time. The latest report has raised fresh concerns about his safety, particularly because his current whereabouts have not been established publicly.

As of the time of this report, the circumstances of the alleged abduction and the identities of those involved remain unverified independently. Further clarification from the relevant security authorities is needed to establish what happened and determine Isah’s whereabouts.
