LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has publicly apologised to her colleague, Laide Bakare, following renewed tension between the two actresses over Badmus’ reaction during a recent podcast interview. Badmus issued the apology on Tuesday through a statement shared on her Instagram page, expressing regret over how she reacted when Bakare’s name was mentioned during her appearance on content creator Isbae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast.
The controversy began after a clip from the interview circulated on social media. During the conversation, the podcast host mentioned Bakare as one of his favourite actresses, prompting Badmus to hiss and change her facial expression. The moment attracted widespread attention online and reignited discussions about the strained relationship between the two Nollywood stars.
Reflecting on the incident, Badmus acknowledged that her reaction could have been interpreted as disrespectful. “On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise,” she said. Addressing Bakare directly, she added: “Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace and I genuinely wish you well.”
Badmus said personal growth involves learning from past experiences and knowing when to move beyond disagreements. She urged both parties to embrace peace rather than allow their differences to continue generating public controversy. “We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward,” she stated.
She concluded her message with an appeal for forgiveness and reconciliation, writing: “Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns.” HOW THE
The latest controversy followed a public criticism from Bakare on Monday, October 19, after she saw the viral podcast clip. Bakare expressed displeasure at Badmus’ reaction and accused her colleague of repeatedly portraying her negatively in public. She also described herself as someone who had supported Badmus earlier in her career.
The latest exchange has brought renewed attention to the actresses’ history of disagreements, including a dispute over Badmus’ comments about Bakare’s outfit at a book launch in March 2024 and a reported confrontation at a Lagos film premiere in April 2025.
Badmus’ latest statement signals her desire to move past the disagreement.
However, it remains unclear whether Bakare will publicly accept the apology or respond to the call for reconciliation.
