ELON MUSK THREATENS RETALIATION AGAINST DEMOCRATS OVER PLANNED PROBES INTO HIS BUSINESS EMPIRE

WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES — Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has warned Democratic lawmakers that he will pursue those he believes are behind efforts to investigate him and his businesses if Democrats gain control of either chamber of the United States Congress in the November midterm elections. Musk issued the warning on Wednesday, October 21, through a post on his social media platform, X, responding to a report that Democratic lawmakers were considering congressional investigations into his business interests and his previous role in the Trump administration “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote. He added that those who challenged him should understand that he would identify the people directing the efforts and pursue them, rather than only their perceived intermediarie

According to reports, some Democratic lawmakers are exploring possible investigations into Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), his companies’ federal contracts and potential conflicts of interest involving his business empire. Musk worked with President Donald Trump’s administration on government cost-cutting efforts before leaving his government role in May 2025. Democrats have raised questions about DOGE’s handling of government agencies, access to sensitive federal information and decisions affecting public spending. They have also questioned the relationship between Musk’s companies and the federal government, given the contracts awarded to businesses such as SpaceX. The allegations and concerns raised by lawmakers would require investigation and evidence before any wrongdoing could be established. 

 Musk’s involvement in satellite internet services used by Ukraine has also attracted attention amid reports concerning restrictions affecting Starlink connectivity. Some lawmakers have raised questions about the influence a private business leader can exercise over communications infrastructure used during an international conflict. Musk has maintained that decisions concerning certain Starlink usage restrictions are made by the relevant authorities, including the US military, depending on the service involved. The circumstances surrounding the reported restrictions have generated competing accounts and calls for further clarification. 

The dispute comes ahead of the November 3, 2026, US midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress. If Democrats win control of either the House of Representatives or the Senate, they could gain leadership of key committees and expand congressional oversight of the Trump administration and companies with significant federal business. However, the proposed investigations remain contingent on political developments and decisions by congressional lawmakers. No finding of wrongdoing against Musk follows merely from the reported plans to investigate him. 

 Musk’s latest comments have intensified the public dispute over congressional oversight, government contracts and the role of wealthy business figures in American politics.
