EKITI ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS TWO COMMISSIONERS, APPROVES 10 SPECIAL ADVISERS FOR OYEBANJI

By NaijaParrot | October 29, 2026 Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has confirmed two commissioner-nominees and approved the appointment of 10 Special Advisers to support Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration as he begins his second term in office.

The lawmakers confirmed Mr Dayo Apata (SAN) as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Mr Akintunde Oyebode as Commissioner for Finance following their screening during plenary on Wednesday. Both nominees previously served in the same positions during Oyebanji’s first term, and their confirmation is expected to provide continuity in the administration’s justice and financial management portfolios.

During the proceedings, the Speaker of the House, Adeoye Aribasoye, acknowledged the nominees’ previous engagements with the legislature, including their appearances for screening and presentations on their stewardship.

The Speaker subsequently urged members to allow the nominees to “take a bow and go,” a proposal that received unanimous support from lawmakers. The House thereafter confirmed their nominations.

Meanwhile, the Assembly postponed the screening of Dr Oyebanji Filani, who was nominated for the position of Commissioner for Health and Human Services. Filani had informed the lawmakers that he would be unable to attend the scheduled screening and requested a new date.

According to the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Babatunde Oke, the Assembly rescheduled the exercise for Monday, November 2, 2026. Filani’s confirmation therefore remains pending until the rescheduled screening and subsequent legislative consideration.

In another development, the lawmakers approved Governor Oyebanji’s request to appoint 10 Special Advisers to assist in the day-to-day administration of the state. The governor had forwarded the nominees’ details and the request for the appointments to the Assembly on Monday as part of efforts to organise key components of his second-term administration.

The proposed appointments are intended to strengthen governance across important sectors and support the implementation of government policies and programmes. However, the names of the 10 Special Advisers and their respective portfolios were not disclosed in the reports announcing the Assembly’s approval.

The Assembly stated that it remained committed to expediting legislative business in the interest of good governance and improved service delivery to the people of Ekiti State. The latest decisions form part of the early administrative arrangements following Oyebanji’s inauguration for a second term on October 16, 2026.

Attention will now turn to the rescheduled screening of Filani and the responsibilities the newly approved Special Advisers will undertake in supporting the administration’s priorities.
