Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and cult-related activities across the state.

The arrests were disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, in a statement issued in Asaba on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. According to the police, the operations led to the recovery of locally manufactured firearms and other exhibits, while investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities.

In the first operation, police operatives, working alongside members of the Civilian Anti-Cult Group, reportedly acted on intelligence concerning the activities of a suspected armed robbery gang. The team subsequently trailed and intercepted the suspects along the Asaba-Benin Expressway on July 14. The arrested individuals were identified as Stephen Danladi, 29, and Jude Christian, 26.

A search conducted on the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols. The police said further interrogation provided information that helped investigators trace other individuals allegedly connected to the criminal network.

Following information obtained during preliminary interrogation, operatives reportedly extended their investigation to Issele-Asagba and Ogwashi-Uku communities. The operation led to the arrest of Jerry Egenus, an indigene of Atuma-Iga in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

He was allegedly involved in supplying firearms and receiving stolen property. According to the police, preliminary investigations suggested that the suspects could be linked to a series of armed robbery incidents in Okpanam, Asaba and neighbouring communities. The reported targets of the robbery attacks included mobile phones, motorcycles and other valuables.

The police confirmed that the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in custody as investigations continued.

In another operation, officers attached to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division reportedly responded to a distress call around the Polytechnic area. The operation resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old man suspected of belonging to the Eiye Confraternity.

A search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, three live cartridges, one expended cartridge and a dagger. The police said the suspect was not a student of the institution and had been taken into custody for further investigation.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against armed robbery, cultism and the circulation of illegal firearms. The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist investigations and prevent criminal activities.

The command also assured residents that efforts would continue to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state. All the arrested individuals remain suspects, and their alleged offences are subject to investigation and determination through the appropriate legal process.
