ASABA, DELTA STATE — The Delta State Police Command has arrested 95 suspected cult members during coordinated operations across four local government areas, recovering five firearms, ammunition and other items allegedly linked to cult activities. According to the police, the operations were conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Asaba, Ika South, Ughelli South and Okpe Local Government Areas as part of efforts to tackle cultism and related violent crimes. The arrests involved operatives from the Department of Operations, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU), according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe.

The largest operation took place at a hotel along Abraka Road in Asaba, where police said suspected members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (SVC), also known as Aro Bagger, had gathered for an alleged cult anniversary celebration. Police said 67 suspects—55 males and 12 females—were arrested during the raid. Items reportedly recovered included two pump-action guns, one locally fabricated cut-to-size firearm, 10 live cartridges, five expended cartridges, 11 caps bearing suspected cult insignia and two branded jackets.

In a related operation in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, police arrested 15 additional suspects—14 males and one female—over suspected links to the same confraternity. In Jeremy Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, three suspects were arrested during a raid on a location police described as a suspected cult hideout. The suspects were identified as John Pius, 32; Oghene Ochuko, 28; and Akinbule Godstime, 24. Police said two locally made pistols, two live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two caps bearing suspected cult insignia and suspected charms were recovered during that operation. Other suspected members reportedly fled. A further 10 male suspects were arrested in Jeddo Community, Okpe Local Government Area, over alleged involvement in cult activities.

The overall recovery comprised two pump-action guns, one locally fabricated cut-to-size gun and two locally made pistols. Police also reported recovering 12 live cartridges and seven expended cartridges across the operations. The command said the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in police custody while investigations continued. Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, commended the officers involved and directed area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical commanders to intensify operations against cult groups. The commissioner also warned that the command would not tolerate cult-related activities capable of threatening public peace, while urging residents to provide credible information to security agencies.

The suspects remain suspects; their arrest does not by itself establish guilt. Any criminal liability will be determined through the appropriate legal process.
