DAVIDO RULES OUT APC SUPPORT FOR 2027, SAYS HE HAS NO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE YET

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he has not chosen a preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, making it clear that he will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC). The singer made the remarks during an interview with News Central TV, where he discussed his political position following his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Davido explained that although his uncle publicly endorsed Tinubu after winning the Osun governorship election, he does not feel obliged to adopt the same political position. The singer said he was yet to identify a presidential candidate he wanted to support, stressing that his decision would be based on his own convictions rather than family or political affiliations. He also made it clear that while his position could change before the election, he had ruled out supporting the APC.
The music star also reflected on his previous involvement in Nigerian politics. Davido recalled supporting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar during his time with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also spoke about campaigning in 2015, when his late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was associated with the APC. His comments suggest that his previous political activities do not necessarily determine whom he will support in the next presidential election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke renewed his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition after securing re-election in Osun State. Davido, however, maintained that his uncle was entitled to make his own political decisions and that he should be equally free to determine his position. The singer’s remarks highlight the difference between the governor’s political alignment and Davido’s current stance ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Despite ruling out the APC, Davido has not endorsed another presidential candidate. His position remains open, meaning he could still announce support for a candidate before the election. For now, the singer says he has yet to find a presidential aspirant he is ready to back. His comments add to the growing public discussion surrounding celebrity involvement in politics and the choices Nigerians may make ahead of the 2027 general election.
