BREAKING: YILWATDA SAYS SOME PEOPLE TINUBU ONCE HELPED TURNED THEIR BACKS ON HIM IN 2023

By NaijaParrot

October 9, 2026 ABUJA, NIGERIA —

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has criticised people he says benefited from President Bola Tinubu’s past support but failed to stand by him during the 2023 presidential election. The remark comes amid the ruling party’s efforts to strengthen its political support ahead of the 2027 general election and persuade Nigerians to consider the Tinubu administration’s policies and projects.

Yilwatda has recently defended Tinubu’s record, particularly on infrastructure, student loans, economic reforms and interventions he says have benefited northern states.

APC CHAIRMAN DEFENDS TINUBU’S POLITICAL RECORD

Yilwatda has repeatedly argued that Tinubu’s political contributions and the policies of his administration deserve recognition from beneficiaries. In recent remarks, the APC chairman urged people in northern Nigeria to acknowledge federal government projects and interventions, including road construction, student loans and initiatives involving compressed natural gas and fertiliser. He also defended the administration’s economic reforms and explained why he supports Tinubu’s bid for another term in office. The latest reported comments about people allegedly abandoning Tinubu during the 2023 election raise questions about political loyalty, past alliances and the expectations that can arise from relationships between political leaders and their supporters.

THE 2023 ELECTION AND TINUBU’S POLITICAL ALLIANCES

Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election under the APC, defeating candidates from opposition parties, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. However, Nigerian politics has continued to feature disagreements among former allies, changing political affiliations and debates over whether political support should be based on personal relationships, party loyalty or public policy. Yilwatda’s reported remarks place renewed attention on these issues as political parties prepare for the next election cycle.

 2027 POLITICAL DEBATE GATHERS MOMENTUM

The APC has been defending Tinubu’s record while encouraging supporters and political groups to mobilise for the 2027 election. Opposition figures, meanwhile, have continued to question the administration’s economic performance and the impact of its policies on ordinary Nigerians. The debate is likely to focus on issues such as the cost of living, employment, security, infrastructure, education and access to affordable energy.

NaijaParrot will continue to monitor political developments and report verified statements from the parties involved.
