Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have reported fresh operational gains against suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters following a series of coordinated military offensives across Borno State and the Lake Chad region.
The military disclosed that 44 suspected insurgents were neutralised during separate operations conducted between October 26 and 28, 2026. Several others reportedly sustained injuries, while vehicles, motorcycles and materials allegedly intended for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were destroyed. The Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Captain Mohammed Goni, announced the development in a statement outlining the latest activities of the military formation.
According to the military, ground troops engaged suspected terrorist fighters at different locations in Kukawa Local Government Area on October 26 following intelligence reports and surveillance. An assessment of the operation indicated that 28 suspected insurgents were killed, while six others reportedly suffered injuries. The military said the engagements formed part of its continued efforts to disrupt armed groups operating within the North-East region.
Further operations were carried out on October 28 by the Maritime Component operating from the Naval Base in Baga. The military reported that eight suspected terrorists were neutralised during offensive actions against targets within the Lake Chad area, while another 10 reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The operation represents the contribution of the naval component to the ongoing joint security campaign against insurgent activities around the Lake Chad corridor.
In a separate development, an air interdiction mission reportedly intercepted a group suspected of preparing to plant improvised explosive devices. According to the military, eight operatives were neutralized during the operation, while their vehicle, motorcycles and materials associated with the preparation and deployment of explosives were destroyed. The military said the intervention prevented the group from proceeding with its suspected IED-related mission.
Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its determination to maintain pressure on terrorist networks, restrict their movements and improve security across the North-East. The Theatre Command also appealed to residents and community members to provide credible information to security agencies, stressing the importance of public cooperation in ongoing efforts to restore peace.
The latest announcement comes amid continued military operations against insurgent groups whose activities have affected communities, livelihoods and economic activities across parts of the region.
