ABUJA, NIGERIA — President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the National Assembly’s support for his administration and ambition to secure a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election. Akpabio gave the assurance during the official inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu’s administration and its policy agenda.
The Senate President said the National Assembly remained committed to supporting the administration’s efforts towards national development, unity and the implementation of policies intended to improve the lives of Nigerians.
He also expressed confidence in the government’s transformation agenda, stressing the importance of cooperation among political leaders and government institutions in pursuing national objectives.
Akpabio’s remarks underscore the APC leadership’s efforts to consolidate political support for Tinubu as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The National Assembly plays a central role in Nigeria’s democratic system through lawmaking, budget approval and oversight of the executive arm of government. Akpabio’s pledge signals his stated commitment to working with the president, although the legislature’s constitutional responsibilities remain distinct from the executive’s.
With the 2027 elections approaching, political parties and their supporters are increasingly organising campaign structures and mobilising support for their preferred candidates. Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, is seeking another four-year term, subject to the electoral process and the decision of Nigerian voters.
