Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed reports claiming that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative positions and local government seats ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor clarified that his political understanding with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other coalition partners is focused primarily on the presidential election, insisting that legislative positions remain open for competition among candidates of different political parties.
Adeleke made the clarification in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, amid social media reports alleging that the governor’s relationship with the Presidency involved an arrangement to share seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, Osun State House of Assembly and local government councils between Accord and the APC. Describing the reports as fabricated, the governor maintained that no agreement had been reached to allocate legislative positions to the APC.
According to the statement, Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid, explaining that the coalition arrangement was specifically designed to bring partners together for the 2027 presidential election. The governor also stated that he would campaign for Accord Party candidates contesting for seats in the National Assembly and the Osun State House of Assembly.
He urged other political parties to campaign for their respective candidates, noting that voters would ultimately determine the outcome of the elections.
Addressing the prolonged local government crisis in Osun State, Adeleke said efforts were ongoing to resolve the dispute while protecting the interests of the various stakeholders involved.
He explained that the discussions were aimed at finding a resolution that accommodates both APC-affiliated chairpersons and elected PDP chairpersons and councillors. According to the governor, restoring grassroots governance is an important consideration as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections. Adeleke further expressed confidence that the local government dispute would be resolved before the end of 2026.
The clarification comes amid political discussions surrounding possible alliances and electoral arrangements ahead of the next general elections.
For now, the governor maintains that the presidential election coalition does not extend to an agreement to share legislative seats, insisting that candidates for the various positions must compete for the support of the electorate.
