2027: OMO-AGEGE THREATENS TO KILL ELECTION RIGGERS, DECLARES ‘RIG AND DIE’
By NaijaParrot October 23, 2026
UVWIE, DELTA STATE — Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has threatened to kill anyone who attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 general elections, declaring that electoral malpractice would be met with deadly resistance. Omo-Agege made the remarks during a campaign event in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, where he warned individuals planning to rig the forthcoming elections against attempting to interfere with the electoral process.
The former senator, who is seeking to represent Delta Central Senatorial District under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), used the phrase “rig and die” to emphasise his opposition to electoral manipulation. According to TheCable, Omo-Agege said: “Anybody who rigs the election on that day, we will kill him! If you don’t value your life, come and rig the election.”
During his address, Omo-Agege argued that election rigging goes beyond the interests of individual politicians, insisting that manipulating votes deprives citizens and their children of the opportunity to determine their future. He warned those considering electoral malpractice that his supporters would resist any attempt to undermine the outcome of the 2027 polls. “They’re rigging your future.
They’re rigging the future of your children. We’re waiting for them. Let them try it. It is rig and die,” he said, according to reports of the event.
Omo-Agege also criticised the advice frequently given to politicians who allege electoral fraud to seek redress through the courts. His comments reflect his stated position that electoral manipulation should not be tolerated. However, his threat to kill alleged election riggers has raised serious concerns about the risk of political violence.
Omo-Agege is seeking a return to the Senate in the 2027 general elections, contesting for the Delta Central seat under the NDC. He previously represented Delta Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 and served as Deputy Senate President between 2019 and 2023.
He left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2026 after losing the party’s senatorial ticket and subsequently joined the NDC. His latest remarks come as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
Although preventing electoral fraud is essential to credible elections, threats to kill suspected offenders raise concerns about the safety of voters, electoral officials, party agents and other participants.
Electoral offences should be investigated by the appropriate authorities, with suspects prosecuted through established legal procedures rather than subjected to extrajudicial violence. Political candidates and their supporters also have a responsibility to ensure that their statements and actions do not encourage attacks or intimidation during campaigns and on election day.
Omo-Agege’s remarks come amid broader calls for peaceful political activities and credible elections in 2027. President Bola Tinubu has reportedly directed security agencies to provide a safe environment for Nigerians to vote and to remain neutral in their dealings with political parties and candidates.
As the election approaches, attention will remain on the conduct of political actors, the preparedness of security agencies and the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to administer a credible electoral process.
