2027 ELECTIONS: WIKE WARNS POLITICAL ALLIES AGAINST CLAIMING VICTORY WITHOUT DELIVERING VOTES FOR TINUBU

 ABUJA, NIGERIA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to coordinate political efforts to secure substantial votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT during the 2027 general elections. Wike made the declaration while discussing his reported assignment to coordinate political activities in the two areas ahead of the next presidential election. The minister expressed confidence in his ability to oversee the task, describing Rivers State and the FCT as the two areas for which he had been assigned responsibility.

“I opened Leadership today, and I saw my name, and I was told that I’m going to coordinate FCT and Rivers. Simple. Not too much work for me. It’s Rivers and FCT,” Wike said. He subsequently pledged to work towards securing massive support for Tinubu in both areas, expressing confidence that the president would receive substantial votes from the two territories. “And let me say, I pledge, by the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That is my joy. 

I have only two assignments: Rivers and FCT,” he stated. Wike also issued a warning to political allies and coordinators, stressing that they should not celebrate the president’s victory without fulfilling their individual responsibilities in mobilising support within their assigned areas. “If you don’t deliver your state and the president wins, don’t say we have won,” the minister warned. His remarks highlight the emphasis being placed on political mobilisation and vote delivery as preparations for the 2027 presidential election continue. 

 Wike also reaffirmed his position within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite his support for Tinubu, declaring that he remained the party’s leader. “For me as an opposition party member, as the leader of the People’s Democratic Party. 

There are not two leaders of the PDP. I am the leader of the PDP. So I speak on behalf of the People’s Democratic Party,” he said. His comments reflect the political dynamics surrounding his continued identification with the PDP while pledging support for the re-election of a president from the All Progressives Congress (APC). As the 2027 elections approach, Wike’s declaration places Rivers State and the FCT at the centre of his stated political assignment, with attention likely to focus on how political groups in both areas organise ahead of the polls.
